In fall 2014, a small group of UCLA instructional
designers and IT support staff were asked to research an alternative platform
for an extremely successful suite of portfolio-style, online courses that had
ultimately proven too expensive to maintain. If the program were to continue, a
more flexible and sustainable solution would have to be found. Could Moodle, UCLA’s other,
more mainstream LMS meet the challenge? In
this presentation I’ll discuss some of the obstacles we faced as well as many
of the innovative ways that Moodle tools were employed to obtain faculty "buy-in," and secure a successful migration to the new system for over 4000 users.
